"Bitcoin and most cryptocurrencies expose your entire payment history to the public. Zcash is the first open, permissionless cryptocurrency that can fully protect the privacy of transactions using zero-knowledge cryptography. Zcash uses advanced cryptographic techniques, namely zero-knowledge proofs, to guarantee the validity of transactions without revealing additional information about them."
What we don't like:
Zcash has the same governance as bitcoin. Therefore, any disagreements on the trajectory of the chain can lead to forks just like bitcoin. Zcash subsidizes only one type of hardware mining. This means over time mining will tend to centralize into a few pools as it helps to stabilize miner payouts resulting in fewer nodes over time, making the network less secure. A lot of privacy coins exist on the market that can prove to be better than Zcash over time. Ethereum a more widely used cryptocurrency, is trying to incorporate zero cash technology into the ethereum network.
What we like:
Zcash uses a special algorithm to secure the network called zk-snark or proof of construction. This allows the network to maintain a secure ledger of balances without disclosing parties or amounts involved in transactions. This maintain privacy for users.
